Gelflex EB: Green
The future of flexible packaging is here and it is green. Among the many features of Gelflex ink is its sustainability. Compared to traditional inks, Gelflex-EB reduces over 90% in solvent emissions, reduces ink consumption by 60%, and produces less waste in transportation, making it better for the environment. It also has less regulatory and insurance costs. In today’s culture, companies are increasingly focused on eco-friendly practices that reduce their carbon footprint. Energy Sciences, Inc. (ESI) is committed producing technology that has limited impact on the environment.
ESI, a proud partner of PepsiCo, recently conducted a series of successful trials with PepsiCo’s packaging department using Gelflex-EB Ink.
When it comes to their flexible packaging, PepsiCo’s goals include [1]:
Increased Recycled Materials: By using plastic bottles and other plastic packaging more than once, consumers can increase the U.S. recycling rate, which is currently around 34.5%.2 Recycling plastic also saves energy. In fact, it requires twice as much energy to burn plastic in a landfill than it takes to recycle it. Together, we can save energy and increase the U.S. recycling rate.
Recyclable, Compostable, or Biodegradable: The positive environmental impact of increasing the amount of packaging that is easily recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable would be significant and would also encourage people to dispose of the packaging responsibly. Statistics have shown that “nine out of ten people said they would recycle if it were easier.” When a company manufactures packaging that is easily recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable, it is making it easier for consumers to discard the packaging appropriately.
Reduced Carbon Impact: Many industries as well as individual consumers consider it a very high priority to reduce one’s carbon footprint. One of the most staggering statistics in terms of plastic manufacturing is that “the energy it takes to make 1.5 million
tons of plastic could provide power to 250,000 homes”.[2]Increase Recycling Rates: If the recycling rate in U.S. increased to 75%, this would be equivalent to removing 50 million cars from the road.[2]
By recycling as well as using recycled materials – which reduces the amount of trash burned in landfills in the U.S. – less air pollution is generated and energy consumption is reduced. These types of sustainable measures have a substantial impact in reducing the carbon footprint of both corporations and individuals. ESI is proud to be a part of the sustainability community by offering Gelflex EB Ink, which can help reduce the carbon footprint of every company that uses it. Reducing solvent emissions and reducing ink consumption, Gelflex EB Ink is the sustainable option when it comes to EB Ink. ESI’s partnerships with companies like PepsiCo allows us to work together to reduce the carbon footprint of packaging manufacturers.
